Young visitors get new free play space in LNER Stadium

Today (April 20) a BRAND NEW adventure play park opens in York, giving visiting children yet another activity.

The adventure play park at York Stadium Leisure Complex is free to enter and open all year round during the day. It is suitable for children from toddlers to teenagers.

The park has a myriad of features, from climbing equipment, slides and walkways to aid fitness and encourage creative play, along with all-weather features and soft surfaces. It also has seating for parents and carers plus lockable gates.

Councilor Darryl Smalley, executive member for culture, leisure and communities at the City of York Council, said: “Designed for up to 50 children to explore at once, this playground supports our commitment to play and exercise in the city’s open spaces. .”

Within the space is an outdoor fitness area for York Leisure Center customers with a purpose built gated secure area. It can be adapted for a variety of purposes, including outdoor fitness classes such as circuits, buggy-a-cise, and high-intensity exercise classes.

Councilor Nigel Ayre, executive member for finance and performance at the City of York Council, said: “Our vision for Community Stadium is very much focused on an experience for all the family. Giving children an outdoor, weatherproof exercise space to enjoy , fits perfectly with that.”
