York City continues recruiting campaign by signing four players

YORK City have continued their recruitment drive with the signing of four players.

Centre-back Fraser Kerr, central midfielder Gus Mafuta, defensive midfielder AJ Greaves and goalkeeper Ethan Ross have all joined York, with the latter on loan for a season.

Kerr arrives at City after two seasons with Chesterfield, which reached the semi-finals of the Vanarama National League play-offs last season.

The 29-year-old counts Birmingham City, Motherwell, Gateshead, Hartlepool United and Torquay United among his former clubs.

Mafuta goes to the Minstermen after a few seasons with Boreham Wood, the play-offs of the National League.

The ex-Gateshead and Hartlepool man won promotion to Sky Bet League Two with Salford City in 2018/19.

Greaves returns to the LNER Community Stadium after being loaned out to John Askey five times last season before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injury.

His move to York puts an end to a three-year professional stint at Doncaster Rovers, where he progressed through the club’s academy.

Ross is on loan from newly promoted League Two team Stockport County, having gained non-league experience at Maidstone United, Weymouth and Aldershot Town.

The arrival of the quartet brings City’s roster for next season’s return to the National League at 17.

New recruits Scott Boden, Alex Hurst, Ryan Fallowfield, Adam Crookes and Scott Burgess had already been brought in.

Last season’s promotion winners Paddy McLaughlin, Maxim Kouogun, Olly Dyson, Ryan Whitley, Mitch Hancox, Maziar Kouhyar, Sam Sanders and Lenell John-Lewis have all been retained.

The club remains in contract talks over new deals for left-backs Scott Barrow and Jonny Haase, while right-back Michael Duckworth has been invited again to prepare for the season.

Five players from the academy are also expected to sign professional deals soon.
