Up close with Bill Ritter: New York City rents rise as pandemic concerns wane; Macy’s Fireworks Show on July 4th

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — In this episode of Up Close, we take a look at New York City’s economy as apartment rents rise again and more people return to the city.

The country’s main municipal economy is in a difficult situation.

As people move back, it becomes more expensive to buy, especially with interest rates rising. But if people don’t buy, prices will fall.

We chat with New York City Comptroller Brad Lander about the city’s financial standing and the impact the downtown Wall Street will have on its finances.

Plus, the biggest fireworks show in the country, the Macy’s 46th Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular, returns Monday in what numbers say is one of the most ambitious shows in years.

Will Cross, executive producer of Macy’s Branded Entertainment, joins Up Close to tell us about this year’s show.
