Tucker Carlson Throws Prime-Time Tantrum During Jan. 6 Commission Hearing

Tucker Carlson opened his Fox News show Thursday night by making it clear that neither he nor Fox News — unlike all other major news outlets — will attend the prime-time, landmark hearing of the House select committee on the January 6, 2021 attack. would broadcast on the United States Capitol.

The hearing, Carlson said, was “disturbed” and “insulting”, and he simply refused to “play along”.

“This is the only hour on a US news station that won’t be broadcasting their propaganda live,” Carlson said, comparing the hearing to the things you might see in “totalitarian regimes.”

“They lie and we won’t let them.”

And so, while the House committee broadcast previously unseen footage of the shocking violence perpetrated by a crowd of Donald Trump supporters on Jan. 6 for the entire country to see, Carlson instead broadcast panned footage of members of Congress. watching the footage.

He and his producers plastered hysterical chyrons across the screen for their millions of viewers to see: “JAN 6 CMTE FUELS FALSE narRATIVES AS SHAM INVESTIGATION DRAGS ON.” “LEADERS WILL Spend 90 MINUTES GIVING MORAL READING.” “OUR LEADERS FOCUS JAN. 6 WHILE IGNORE THE REAL THREATS.”

Carlson also welcomed a killer row of his favorite guests, including Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), right-wing pundit Michael Tracey and Darren Beattie, a one-time speechwriter for former President Donald Trump who was kicked out of the White House for speaking at a conference of white supremacists.

Beattie was one of the main talking heads for “Patriot Purge,” Carlson’s January 6 conspiracy docuseries on Fox Nation.

Carlson used his prime time Thursday to recap the wild revisionist history of January 6. mass.

Carlson also tried to equate the January 6 attack with the 2020 anti-racist uprisings, a false equivalence that swallowed his guests with delight.

“If the political violence benefits them, they turn a blind eye to it,” said Matt Schlapp, president of the US Conservative Union. “When real Americans are outraged, they want to put them in jail.” (Schlapp didn’t explain what a “true American” was.)

Fox News didn’t stop for a commercial for the full hour of Carlson’s show.

“Carlson went through the hour without a break,” tweeted Matthew Gertz, senior fellow at Media Matters, the liberal media watchdog. “Fox is desperately trying to prevent its viewers from switching to another channel and seeing the hearing in real time.”

“Fox News doesn’t just let Tucker Carlson do his regular show, they broadcast it without commercials,” Gertz added. “They want to push his propaganda so that they put money on the table to do it.”

At one point on his show, while Carlson claimed that what happened on January 6 was not an uprising, Carlson seemed to threaten another uprising.

“This was not an uprising,” he said of the attack to try to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 electoral college vote, “but you know what will get you an uprising? If you ignore legitimate public concerns. If you push them aside like they don’t matter when gasoline goes to $5 and say, “Buy an electric car.” When cities become so filthy and dangerous that you can’t live in them anymore When the economy is so disrupted your children have no hope of getting married and giving you grandchildren If you don’t care at all and only talk about yourself , non-stop, if you behave like that, you could have a rebellion.”
