Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that former President Donald Trump must never be near the Oval Office again.
Anchor Jon Karl asked: “You have been clear to yourself since January 6 that he bears responsibility, have these hearings shown that Donald Trump should be prosecuted?”
Cheney said, “Ultimately, the Justice Department will decide that. I think we as a committee can have an opinion on that. And if you just think about it from the perspective of what kind of man knows the mob is armed and sends the mob to attack the Capitol and further sets that mob when his own vice president is threatened, when Congress gets threatened? It’s very chill. I think we’ll definitely, you know, continue to present to the American people what we’ve found.”
Karl asked, “Are you concerned about what that means for the country, to see a former president being prosecuted, a likely candidate to become president against Biden, would it be Biden’s Justice Department that would prosecute?”
Cheney said, “I’m more concerned about what it would mean if people weren’t held accountable for what happened here. I think it’s a much bigger constitutional threat if a president can participate in this kind of activity and, you know, the majority of the president’s party looks away from us as a country to decide, you know, we’re not really going to fulfill our constitutional obligations serious.”
She added: “I think there is no doubt about it. I mean, a man is dangerous, because Donald Trump can absolutely never be near the oval office again.”
