Tony Armstrong said he knocked out the Logies the day after

Tony Armstrong has talked about the long search his ABC News Breakfast colleagues made to find him the morning after he won his first prize at the Logies.

He told PEDESTRIAN.TV that he wasn’t actually supposed to be working at all on Monday – the day after the big awards ceremony on the Gold Coast. He had (cleverly) taken the day off so that he could struggle through the Logie’s hoon tomb in relative peace.

“On Monday I took a day of annual leave,” he said.

“So this story has eluded me here. I took a day off and they were painting like I was supposed to be on television.”

Tony finally made it to the morning program after QLD reporter Michael Rennie tracked him down.

Honestly, if I were Tony, I would have stayed in bed until the last minute and then avoided my colleagues at all costs. No one should see my face the day after a taunt. Especial not an entire morning news crew spread to the whole country.

“They had the nerve to try and get me in seven hours,” Tony laughed.

“I mean, if I went through – which I eventually did – it would only be in the last 10 minutes of the show, since it was a public holiday. I paid to have that day off!”

The Logies was Tony’s first red carpet as a household name and he told us it’s something that’s not for him. He had even taken the trouble to think of a way around the Logies carpet during rehearsals the day before.

“Not for me, huh,” he said.

“The day before I had a rehearsal with Dylan Alcott because we hand out a prize, so I mapped out a long way to avoid the red carpet. were publicity not have that. Some people love it and all the power to them, but you couldn’t get me off that thing fast enough.

“It’s just terrifying, having to stand in front of people and have your picture taken.”

But alas, when you get a tip for winning one of the big prizes on the night, you kind of have to do the whole song and dance in front of the cameras.

Tony will host ABC 90 Celebrate! next to Double J’s Zan Rowe and The Chasers Craig Reucassel on ABC TV and ABC iview on June 30 at 8 p.m.
