Thousands of sandbags distributed as Hurricane Ian approaches Florida coast

The town of New Smyrna Beach — on Florida’s east coast — handed out 8,300 sandbags to residents ahead of Hurricane Ian’s expected arrival, officials said on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Footage shared by the city of New Smyrna Beach shows sandbags being filled at the city’s sports complex. The complex would be open until September 27 until 6pm for residents to pick up and fill sandbags.
