Ms Abu Akleh, 51, was shot in the head Wednesday morning while reporting in the West Bank city of Jenin, despite wearing a blue helmet and bulletproof vest marked “Press”. The Israeli military said an initial investigation showed a heavy firefight was underway about 150 meters from where she was killed.
But Ms Abu Akleh’s journalists said there was no fighting nearby and that they were fired upon by Israeli forces.
The protesters gathered for a vigil outside the BBC’s Broadcasting House in London’s Portland Place on Saturday at noon, holding signs of blue flak that read “Press”.
It came a day after corpse bearers dropped Ms. Abu Akleh’s coffin after Israeli police stormed her funeral procession in Jerusalem with batons drawn.
