The new Mission: Impossible movie and 5 more big trailers you might have missed this week

Welcome back to JOE’s weekly trailer column.

As always, we’ve rounded up the best teasers released in the world of film and TV in the past seven days for you to watch.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

While a Tom Cruise sequel is currently in theaters and receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, a trailer for another appeared this week.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is the seventh installment in the critically acclaimed espionage franchise and while details of the plot are kept secret, it’s bound to find IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) on a pretty tough mission.

While there’s little information about the sequel’s plot, the above teaser features some returning faces for the franchise – including actor Henry Czerny, who was last seen in the first M:I movie in 1996.

It will also provide viewers with a glimpse of what will undoubtedly be jaw-dropping action sequences when the film hits theaters in July 2023.

Another world famous action thriller, the story of The Gray Man revolves around a veteran CIA mercenary (Ryan Gosling) who accidentally reveals dark desk secrets.

As such, he finds himself a target and is hunted around the world by a psychopathic ex-colleague (Chris Evans) and international hitmen.

The Gray Man, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) and starring Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) and Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton), hits Netflix on July 22.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Marvel also released a new trailer this week for Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth in the Thor film series.

In the sequel, Chris Hemsworth’s title character will team up with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman, whose character now has her own superpowers) to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a killer who wants to eliminate all gods.

It looks like it will have more of the eccentricity and humor that made Thor: Ragnarok such a standout MCU entry, Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters July 8.

In this survival thriller, Idris Elba plays a recently widowed man who returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, while traveling with his two teenage daughters.

However, while visiting a game reserve run by an old family friend and fellow wildlife biologist (Sharlto Copley of District 9), a ruthless, human-hunting lion chases them.

Based on the trailer, this should be an incredibly exciting watch when it arrives in Irish cinemas on August 26.

On TV this week, we got a teaser trailer for the next Star Wars show to be released after the recently premiered Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Andor will serve as a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One by focusing on the character of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) during the five years leading up to the events of the film.

Starring Fiona Shaw and Stellan Skarsgård and featuring 12 episodes, the first two will premiere on Disney+ on August 31.

Speaking of Disney+, we also got a teaser trailer this week for Willow, the new series based on and serving as a sequel to the 80s movie of the same name.

Man vs Bee

Finally, we have Man vs. Bee, a nine-episode Netflix slapstick series starring Rowan Atkinson, known for Mr. Bean, as a man tormented by a bee.

Curious how such a premise will hold up over nine episodes? You will hear that on June 24.
