Students should learn a ‘positive, optimistic view’ of Australia’s history: Tudge

Shadow Education Minister Alan Tudge says “a lot” of work needs to be done on the national curriculum to give students a “positive, optimistic view” of Australia’s history.

“I still want to make sure that when students come out of school they really understand… the fact that Australia is one of the richest, freest, most egalitarian and most tolerant societies that has ever existed in all of human history,” Mr Tudge told Sky News presenter Chris Kenny.

“And its origins and how we came to be.

“Because if they don’t understand those things well, they won’t defend it well.”
