Football help: Liam Payne becomes captain and gives an interview

Viewers of Soccer Aid made similar comments Sunday night when Liam Payne was interviewed ahead of the celebrity football match at London Stadium.

The One Direction star will captain England for the first time as they take on Usain Bolt’s World XI and hope to win for the first time since 2018.

But the 28-year-old’s turn on the football field comes after his controversial comments about tensions with his former One Direction bandmates, alleging a member once threw him against a wall.

The singer recently appeared on Logan Paul’s podcast Impaulsive and was asked if any of the band had ever “taken a hit”.

Liam said: “I think it’s well known in the band that I don’t like taking shit. I’ve made it very clear, I’m not going to tell you how.

“There was a point when there was a fight backstage and one member in particular threw me against a wall. So I said to him, ‘If you don’t remove those hands, chances are you’ll never use them again’.”

Liam said the unnamed member soon took his hands off him, but when Soccer Aid viewers took to Twitter during the lead-up to the football game, many referenced the explosive interview.

One joked: “I hope no one roughs Liam Payne in this match because we know it’s pretty hard when…”

A second said similarly: “Lord, help the keeper when Liam Payne sees him get his hands on that ball.”

Another viewer commented: “Everyone at Soccer Aid fears for their hands with Liam Payne as captain.”

Another wrote: “Liam Payne can’t look at him the same since he did that interview makes me cringe,” as another tweeted: “Since watching that Liam Payne interview I can’t look at him without looking laugh.”

The England team, made up of football legends and celebrities, enjoyed karaoke and a few pre-match laughs, with Liam keeping the players in a good mood.

Liam threw a ‘bonding exercise’ party at their hotel on Saturday night, which included Jamie Carragher.

The hotel party was live streamed by Carragher to his 1.6 million Instagram followers. Players from the World XI were also in attendance as the famous faces enjoyed a well-deserved get-together.
