‘Multiple hits’ shooting in Copenhagen shopping center
Three people have been killed and three others are in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on a busy shopping center in Copenhagen, Denmark.
At about 5:30 p.m. local time, shots were heard in the Field’s shopping center, causing shoppers to flee or hide in stores.
Police Inspector Soren Thomassen said a 22-year-old Danish man has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
“We have no information that others are involved. This is what we know now,” Thomassen said at a press conference.
Officials said the possibility that it was an “act of terror” could not be ruled out yet, but it was too early to speculate about the gunman’s motive.
“We have all been brutally ripped from the radiant summer that had just begun. It’s incomprehensible. Heartbreaking. Pointless,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a late night statement.
“Our beautiful and usually so safe capital had changed in a split second.”
