COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Danish police said on Sunday that several people had been shot dead in a shopping center in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen police said one person has been arrested in connection with the shooting at Field’s shopping center, which is close to the city’s airport. Police tweeted that “several people were hit”, but did not provide other details.

Footage from the scene showed people running out of the shopping center and Danish broadcaster TV2 posted a photo of a man being placed on a stretcher. Witnesses said people were crying and hiding in shops.

Laurits Hermansen told Danish broadcaster DR that he was in a shopping center clothing store with his family when he heard “three-four bangs”. Really loud bangs. It sounded like the shots were fired right next to the store.”

There was a huge presence of heavily armed police officers, and several fire engines were also parked outside the mall.
