Seth Lakeman has to postpone tour after injury in bicycle accident

Acclaimed folk singer Seth Lakeman from Devon has had to reschedule his highly anticipated tour after being injured in a bicycle accident. The 45-year-old shared photos of himself on crutches after the crash.

Seth has been forced to move performances scheduled to take place at the end of April after the incident. The dates have been moved to later this year, in September. But he says he hopes the rest of the tour “should go ahead as planned” from May 10.

He said: “I’m sorry to everyone who booked tickets for next week, a bike accident happened. So frustrating because I was really looking forward to playing again – I’ll be back soon stomping and singing.”

After making the news, he shared a photo of his injuries. He was leaning on crutches and appeared to have cuts to his hand and elbow – and he was wearing only one shoe.

The singer who grew up in Devon takes inspiration from the landscape and history with hits such as the tragic story of Kitty Jay and the dark legend of Freedom Fields.

Writing about his new album, he said he was desperate to get back on tour after the coronavirus lockdowns: “The pandemic gave me a real determination to come out stronger musically and I really dug deep into myself for this album. It was really spiritual to record again and play with the band.”

Seth said on Facebook today: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are moving the dates with the band from the end of April to September. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

“All tickets remain valid for the new dates. The shows with Alex Hart starting May 10 in Sheffield should be able to go ahead as planned.”

He explained that the shows involved were included; Colchester, Southampton, London, Frome, Tavistock, Stoke and Holmfirth. These will now take place from September 19 to September 25.
