Dozens of people, many of them children, took part in a little old-fashioned Christmas event on the River Canard on Saturday, with Santa and his elves arriving by boat to meet youngsters.
It was the seventh annual event hosted by River Canard Canoe and its owner Ron Lapointe.
“Since we started it, this has become a bit of a tradition with Santa and two elves taking him down the river by boat,” he said. “Everyone lines up at the bridge to greet him as he comes down the river.”
Santa Claus, once arriving at the wharf by pontoon boat, then met children and took pictures with them. This year’s event saw the added feature of a River Canard Winter Princess arriving with them.
“We’re a small community, but the river is a big part of our lifestyle here,” Lapointe said. “People come from the city and it just makes it a little bit more natural and old-fashioned event for everyone instead of visiting Santa in a mall.”
All the children present received face stickers from the elves and there was hot chocolate for everyone.
