‘Public is behind us’ claims RMT as millions forced to work from home

A A teachers’ strike over pay would be tantamount to another “lockdown” for children, a senior Conservative MP said.

Robert Halfon, chairman of the Education Select Committee, warned that teacher union action could adversely affect children.

“Our children have been greatly damaged by Covid in recent years as most children did not go to school,” he told the BBC’s World At One programme.

“We know that the damage done to their education, their mental health, their life chances, their protection, and de facto detention of children by a strike would not only cause misery to the children, but also create enormous problems. for parents, because of course many of them have to be at work while their children go to school.

“So this is not the way to solve these problems,” he said.
