As first accidentally mentioned by Bleeding Cool, Jorge Jimenez is the new artist on the twelve-year-anticipated return of The Nemesis series, originally published by Marvel Comics, written by Mark Miller and signed by Steve McNiven. Steve is too busy drawing Neil Gaiman‘s Spider-Man memories at the moment – and presumably from the past decade – so Jorge Jiménez is taking a break from Batman to draw the character’s new return. Who was once advertised as “What If Batman Was AC*nt” until DC Comics told him to stop. And yes, this is the comic where Nemesis kidnaps the cop’s kids, impregnates the daughter with the son’s sperm, and causes her uterus to collapse when an abortion is attempted. I’d like to say it was a different time, but I think Texas lawmakers would be fine with that right now. Here are twelve pages of illiterate, inked and colored work and three pages of uncolored work from the upcoming Nemesis: Reloaded #1 by Mark Millar and Jorge Jiménez, from Image Comics and Netflix in January 2023…
In 2009, Mark Miller and Steve McNiven published a Millarworld book through Marvel Comics called Nemesis about a supervillain being hunted by the police. The series would then return in 2012 as Nemesis returns or Nemesis 2. Then it was postponed to 2013. Then nothing. Ten years ago we were told, “To ensure the timeliness of the Nemesis returns, Steve is teaming up with two exciting new talents and opened a new studio venture, Carbon Sun Studios” and that “Nemesis means a lot to me and I want it to be the best of my stuff,” said McNiven. “I want it to be good done, and we’ll see to it that Nemesis gets his due.” Well, it wouldn’t have been Larraz or Jimenez back then. I wonder who it was?
In the original comic book, the charismatic supervillain Nemesis was seen ostensibly targeting Chief Inspector Blake Morrow because of what Morrow had done to his father. He hijacks Air Force One over the District of Columbia and takes the President of the United States with him before crashing the plane in Washington DC, killing hundreds of people – and then tens of thousands with poison gas, just to taunt the conservative Morrow. It is eventually revealed that the Nemesis identity is owned by a company that causes rich people to become supervillains. And that a new one is born.
Of the new Nemesis reloadedquotes CBR Jimenez as saying, “I’m especially excited to have this opportunity to work with Mark Millar! Not only is he a writer I’ve admired for years, but he’s also one of the titans of the comic book world. In addition , Nemesis series has everything I need to develop my style as an artist in a crazy, bold way and without filters. My main goal is to take care of the acting of the characters. This series deftly plays between extremely hard scenes and hints of badass humor, extreme violence and some serious dramatic details. The whole project is such a challenge for me, to keep up with this crazy energy and make the whole project feel really entertaining and fun. I’m also going to be the luckiest guy in the world doing the action sequences. They are so dynamic and powerful, but also very modern. I’m very excited! I promise you that I will do my best and you will enjoy this madness we have created for you!!”
