West Coast Eagles Premiership midfielder Dom Sheed has been banned for the remainder of the 2022 season.
The Eagles announced the news Monday afternoon, declaring that a lower leg injury would prevent the 27-year-old from returning to the field this season.
Sheed played just one game at AFL level this year, losing to the West Coast in Round 14 to the Cats at Optus Stadium, after sustaining an ankle injury in pre-season.
He played a long stint in the WAFL before returning to the AFL, but the Eagles have now put the star ball winner on ice.
The news comes the day after fellow Prime Minister Elliot Yeo appeared to have injured his hamstring in the Eagles’ loss to Richmond at the MCG.
Sheed joins Oscar Allen, Campbell Chesser, Tom Cole and Luke Edwards, all of whom have been banned from the season, while the rest of Yeo’s year will depend on the scan results.
It’s another brutal blow to the Eagles, who have been cursed with injuries and COVID-19 all year, and since the AFL seem to be making their way with competitive losses to Geelong and Richmond to take their second win of the year against Essendon .
“Having worked so hard to get back to playing after his ankle injury, it is a great shame for both Dom and the club that he will have to miss the rest of the season,” said West Coast Football Manager Gavin Bell.
