“I can’t imagine being anything other than my babies, and it creates that sense of family in us,” she explained.

“It was something I didn’t think twice about changing.”

The Burgesses split in October 2019, with Phoebe later publicly blaming the NRL for her marriage breakdown, saying the league reportedly did little to help Sam when he went off the rails by partying and using drugs.

“He was not looked after,” Phoebe told The Weekend Australian.

“He wasn’t properly protected, like that maybe — didn’t save our marriage, but it might have led to a real rehabilitation, a real sense of responsibility, possessing behavior, wanting to change that behavior.”

Phoebe tried to put on a brave face during the tough times but said she was the victim of taunts and ridicule when pregnant with her second child and watching Sam play at Stadium Australia.

“I was interrupted by the crowd, drunk people asking me if I wanted FaceTime, and where my husband was and, you know, was it his baby? It was humiliating and humiliating,” she said.
