Philadelphia man fatally shot while answering front door, police seek 2 gunmen

A Philadelphia man was shot dead early Thursday after he opened his front door and two gunmen opened fire, authorities said.

The victim, identified as a 31-year-old man, died just after midnight at his home on the 500 block of Marwood Road, FOX29 Philadelphia reported, citing police.

Two male suspects knocked on the victim’s door and started shooting when he opened the door, police said.

“After he opened the door and was shot, it looks like he ran a few feet back into the house and collapsed,” Philadelphia Superintendent Scott Small told WPVI-TV.

Police said officers who responded found the victim with gunshot wounds on the floor of his living room. Investigators found 11 shell casings scattered inside and outside the house. It appeared that the gunmen also fired several shots through the window of the home.

The victim was pronounced dead on the spot. Police said two family members of the victim were in the house when gunshots erupted, but neither of them were injured.

Investigators assume that the suspects fled in an SUV. The authorities are continuing the investigation.

Fox News Digital contacted the Philadelphia Police Department but didn’t hear back immediately.

On Wednesday, the city-wide homicide rate in Philadelphia dropped 6%, with 145 homicides so far compared with 154 reported in the same period last year, according to public police data.

The number of shooting incidents across the city rose to 1,136 on Sunday — a 3.37% increase from the 1,099 shooting incidents reported over the same period in 2021, according to police statistics.
