One person has been killed and at least eight others injured after a vehicle rammed into a crowd of people and then smashed through a shop window in West Berlin.
A Renault vehicle is said to have hit people around 10:30 a.m. next to the war-ravaged Gedaechtniskirche, one of the city’s best-known landmarks near Breitscheidplatz square.
A 29-year-old man, believed to be the driver, with German-Armenian dual citizenship has been arrested, Berlin police told Sky News.
They added: “It is believed that a man ran into a group of people. It is not yet known whether it was an accident or an intentional act.”
Actor John Barrowman, who was present at the time of the incident, said it was “very bad”.
“There are a lot of police, there is a body in the middle of the road and all emergency services are trying to help the victims,” he said. “There are a lot of people walking with injuries.”
