A police chase that began in Ontario and entered Pomona ended in a shooting that left one person dead Friday night, authorities confirmed.
cpl. Bill Lee, a spokesman for the Ontario Police Department, said he could not confirm whether an officer’s gunshot killed the suspect or whether the suspect was armed.
Officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in the Mission Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue area of Ontario at 7:37 PM, but the driver did not give up and officers gave chase, Lee said.
Information about why officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, and a description of the vehicle, were not immediately available.
The chase continued through Montclair and into Pomona, where it ended when the suspect collided with an uninvolved person near Kadota Avenue and 9th Street, Lee said.
He could not immediately confirm the status of the other driver.
The suspect got out of the vehicle after the crash and at least one officer opened fire, Lee said. The suspect was pronounced dead after the shooting, although it was not known late Friday whether he was in a hospital or on site.
No officers were injured in the incident, he said.
Further information about the pursuit and shooting was not available Friday.
