The royal family attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday to welcome South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Along with the tiara, Princess Catherine wore a white dress with silver beads by British fashion designer Jenny Packham.
The Lover’s Knot tiara was also a favorite of the former Princess of Wales, Diana.
It has a string of pearl drops hanging from diamond knots at the top of the headpiece.
The piece is more than a century old and was commissioned between 1913 and 1914 by Queen Mary, grandmother of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Court Jeweler reports.
Kate paired the tiara with her favorite earrings that belonged to her mother-in-law Diana and a bracelet that belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
The outfit was completed with the Star and Sash of the Royal Family and the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
The princess and her husband Prince William were seen arriving at the palace by car.
Since pictures of the evening were shared on social media, royal fans have been confused about Kate’s “majestic” appearance.
“There is always that wowza image at an event and #PrincessCatherine never disappoints. Simply amazing!” said one tweet.
“Princess Catherine looks stunning tonight,” said another.
“Obsessed with Catherine’s outfit,” a third added.
Camilla, Queen Consort, also wore her first tiara since being retitled.

Charles’ first state dinner
The former Duchess of Cornwall was spotted in a sapphire and diamond tiara worn by her late mother-in-law during a state visit in 2015.
She paired the tiara with a blue grown and sash and matching sapphire earrings and necklace.
Prior to the guests’ arrival, King Charles and Camilla inspected the table arrangements for the evening, as seen in a Twitter video shared by the royal family.
The lavish table was decorated with more than 100 candles, displays of seasonal fruits and floral arrangements.
During the visit of the President of South Africa, William and Kate proved the further responsibility they have taken on since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The couple welcomed President Ramaphosa to the Corinthia Hotel on behalf of the king and went alongside him to the Horse Guards Parade where he received a ceremonial welcome.
After the welcome, the president and the royal couple rode in a carriage to Buckingham Palace.
