Neil Patrick Harris Rude, Problematic Moments

The Rachel Bloom moment, ugh…

You know actor Neil Patrick Harris – he is the star of… How I met your mother and also a huge deal on Broadway.

He recently made headlines after writer Ashley Reese put forward that he once hosted a Halloween party, where he had a “Corpse of Amy Winehouse” meat platter, just four months after the singer died of alcohol poisoning.

The meat platter was shared on Twitter by Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s husband Justin Mikita, who attended the party. He captioned the photo: “Look who showed up at… [Neil Patrick Harris] and [David Burtka’s] Halloween party last night. Looks good” with a photo of the meat platter.

It’s important to note that neither NPH nor David Burtka have apologized – David just deleted the tweet.

People were clearly disgusted by a meat platter (often confused as a cake) that joked about the tragic death of Amy Winehouse – a young singer who publicly battled addiction and died of alcohol poisoning.

I can no longer enjoy a series of unfortunate events on @netflix and all his other projects because I just found out that Neil Patrick Harris had ordered a cake from Amy Winehouse’s corpse for a Halloween party. Subhuman behavior. https://t.co/EVP6at6SlH

Literally 4 months after she died. Halloween 2011. I’ve hated him ever since. It was a “corpse of Amy Winehouse” pie. You can google it because I don’t post it. https://t.co/kLjR0xB0cK

On further investigation, people brought up some of his other questionable behaviors. Here are seven other times the actor was problematic, rude, or both:

1.

When he was unnecessarily rude to Rachel Bloom on Twitter, he tweeted this about how she talks:

Who is the woman in the top hat backstage at @TheTonyAwards? Gideon noted that she says “like” and “oh my god” a lot. I am confused…

2.

Rachel replied, ‘I’m a big fan of yours. We have met countless times and my husband, Dan Gregor, wrote for: How I met your mother for 5 years. Notably, he wrote the episode where your character finally meets his dad.” Then NPH replied with this – not at all apologetic:

@Racheldoesstuff @TheTonyAwards Indeed! Well said. Thanks for the reminding. How was it backstage?

3.

When he literally stopped talking to Mayim Bialik for a while because she didn’t give him a standing ovation when she saw him perform in rent on Broadway in 1997.

“We haven’t spoken for a long time. He says he has forgiven me. He sent me flowers,” Mayim said.

4.

When he said an anti-trans slur on Live with Kelly! in 2011:

5.

When he called actor Jason Mewes – Kevin Smith’s co-star Jay and Silent Bob – a “drugged mess of a man” when asked about the film in an interview:

This clearly upset director Kevin Smith, who later shouted NPH on Twitter:

(3/3) I mean, why do you say such a thing? s’ not true OR with respect for a fellow artist. Dude basically said Mewes is not an actor. Wow.

NPH followed up with a apologyadmit that his statement was ignorant.

6.

When he kept missing his lines at the New York Philharmonic’s Company, costar Patti Lupone praised everyone but him and said, “You’ll get there.” Then he lashed out at Patti, saying, “I fail here at every turn, and you tell everyone they’re great and you say, ‘I’ll get there! It is not convenient! It’s not funny!”

7.

And finally, when he made an ill-timed joke about Dana Perry’s outfit at the 2015 Oscars, just after she dedicated her award to her son, who died by suicide:

“It takes a lot of balls to wear a dress like that,” NPH said. Some of them didn’t like it, but Dana said she was fine with it.
