The cast of Neighbors took their final bow today as they filmed their final scene, closing a curtain on the soap after 37 years.

The actors and crew took a group photo as they said goodbye to Ramsay Street, but there were a few notable absentees.

Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue – who played Scott and Charlene Robinson in the 1980s – will appear in the final episode, but neither was featured on the recording.

Their 1987 wedding is arguably the most iconic moment in Neighbours’ long history, with millions across the UK and Australia tuning in for the golden couple to tie the knot.

More recent fan favorites such as stalwarts Karl and Susan Kennedy, Toadfish Rebecchi and Paul Robinson took part in the group photo.

Ryan Mallony, who plays Toady, told 10 News: “Little sad this morning, very excited. Everyone is really excited, you take two seconds, you look at someone and you burst into tears.”

Alan Fletcher, who called Dr. Playing Karl Kennedy, added: “Obviously huge sadness at the end of the show, but also a feeling of deep, deep gratitude. To have such an opportunity, 28 years in a wonderful role, it was epic.”

The final episodes are expected to air in August.

Fremantle Media, which makes Neighbors, revealed that the show would end in March.

“After the loss of our main UK broadcast partner and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no choice but to put the show to rest,” it said.

“For our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is for all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an unbelievable height. From now on we will celebrate Neighbours.”

Neighbors attracts around 1.5 million viewers daily in the UK and up to 170,000 tube viewers in Australia.
