More than a million Australian women benefit from minimum wage increase

More than 1.5 million low-paid Australian women working in healthcare, retail, hospitality and social work will be the main beneficiaries of the Fair Work Commission’s 5.2 percent minimum wage increase.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers said it is an acknowledgment that women are the most vulnerable to the pandemic and its economic impact, and it is true that they are benefiting most from the pay rise.

Employer groups have warned that this will fuel inflation and put some companies at risk of laying off workers.
