Two temporary senior managers have been appointed by the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
Alerie Watts took on the position of interim director on Monday, and interim director Mark Smith was introduced Tuesday night at a meeting of the council’s direct services committee.
Also welcome to the meeting was Alliance councilor Maeve Donnelly, who has been co-opted to the council following the election of her husband, former councilor Danny Donnelly. Mr Donnelly was elected to the Assembly in May as Alliance MLA for East Antrim.
Previous interim chief executive Mark Parkinson was appointed on February 21, but left the position after less than 14 days. He previously held the position of Deputy Director at Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
Chief executive Anne Donaghy has been absent since September.
Operations Director Philip Thompson has been on sick leave. The absence of Mr. Thompson and Mr. Parkinson due to illness was announced at the March City Council meeting.
The temporary chief executive’s salary was between £107,255 and £116,221 per annum.
The appointment would be made on a contract basis with the position in Ballymena.
Ms Watts is a former chief executive of the Health and Social Care Board.
Previously she was Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council and Chief Executive of Derry City Council.
The Chief Operating Officer’s salary is listed in the TaxPayers’ Alliance Town Hall Rich List for 2022 as £87,500.
