MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow reveals what she REALLY cooks at home – and it’s not what you’d think

Poh Ling Yeow has revealed that she once shocked a fan by admitting that she cooks “very simple” meals at her home as opposed to the elaborate dishes she prepares on TV.

The MasterChef Australia star, 49, told Samantha Armytage on her podcast that many professional chefs only prepare fancy dishes when they have an audience.

“Someone asked me if I cook elaborate dishes at home and I was like “hell no”. I only cook that kind of stuff when I’m showing off,” she admitted.

She added: ‘I cook very Aussie food at home. Very basic. It demystifies the whole thing about what professional chefs do at home.”

The Malaysian-born reality star explained that since cooking is what she does for a living, she likes to eat “neat” when she’s short on time.

Poh went on to say she wished simple food could be more accepted at social events, as the focus should be on “reconnecting” rather than eating.

It comes after Poh recently wrote a recipe book called What I Cook When Nobody’s Watching.

In the book, Poh shares her secret “simple” recipes for easy-to-prepare food that is absolutely delicious.

She recently spoke candidly about how she left the Mormon church and experienced a “tumultuous” marriage to her first husband.

“Someone asked me if I cook elaborate dishes at home and I was like "not really". I only cook that kind of stuff when I'm showing off,” she admitted

Ahead of her appearance on Australian Story, she told the ABC that her relationship with Matt Phipps was “fiery” from the start and the pair had wild screaming matches.

“Matt and I absolutely killed each other,” she said of her former husband, whom she married in 1990 and divorced in 1999.

The reality star also cited the fact that she and Matt didn’t have kids as a reason why it was so easy to end their relationship in a “clean, grown-up” way.

Poh became a household name after appearing on Season One of MasterChef in 2009, before returning for Season 12 where she placed 6th.
