Manchester City are ready to bid for Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, their main target at left-back. Pep Guardiola is determined to sign his compatriot Catalan after being impressed by his performance in the Premier League.
Cucurella joined from Getafe at Brighton last August, after a spell at Barcelona in which he was limited to the B-team. City’s interest is well established and their first offer is expected within days.
Brighton will make a significant profit if they sell Cucurella, who joined for £15.4million and wept tears of joy after scoring his first goal for the club in May’s 4-0 win over Manchester United.
While Oleksandr Zinchenko and right-footed Joao Cancelo played successfully as left-backs last season to help City win the title, Guardiola wants another specialist in the position. Benjamin Mendy has been suspended indefinitely.
City have bought Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million and the chairman, Khaldoon al-Mubarak, has said two more new signings are planned.
Another Brighton player, Yves Bissouma, is undergoing a medical check-up at Tottenham after a deal was agreed on a £25million plus-us transfer. The midfielder has been playing for Brighton since 2018.
Fulham are advancing in negotiations to buy Israeli striker Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk and are seeking to sign Sporting Lisbon’s defensive midfielder João Palhinha. The Portuguese is also a target for Wolves.
