Anthony warning

Erik ten Hag knows exactly what he is signing for if he succeeds in bringing Antony to Manchester United.

The Brazilian showed his incredible natural skills while playing under Ten Hag at Ajax, but also showed a tendency to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. After making an incredible blow to claim a 3-2 win over Feyenoord in March, Antony took off his shirt in the excitement that led to his being booked.

And moments later, he was shown a second yellow card for wasting time, causing his captain Dusan Tadic to throw him to the ground in frustration. Former Netherlands international Rene van der Gijp criticized the star, saying he could “get crazier”.

While ex-Ajax top player Wim Kieft hinted that Antony “behaves like an idiot”. And it seems that Ten Hag has taken the messages on board, as he admitted that the attacker still has a lot to “learn”.

Garner’s first team message

James Garner wants to “go ahead in preparation and impress” following his return to Manchester United after his loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder helped Forest promote to the Premier League last season through the championship play-offs, which were played in a staggering 44 first-team appearances. He returns to United with the club desperate for quality in the middle of the park, under a manager who has built a reputation for giving young players a chance to impress.

And in a statement that is sure to be music to his new boss’s ears, Garner says it’s “up to me as a player to impress him and hopefully leave a mark.”

Why Zidane could never manage United

Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has hinted he could never take charge of Manchester United.

The Frenchman was one of the names associated with the job at Old Trafford before the club hired Erik ten Hag, and it looks like he may never take that role. Zidane has said there are only “two or three” teams he would realistically lead, suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain, his former team Juventus and the French national team could be his favorite destinations.

And the World Cup winner also admitted that he does not speak “completely fluent” English – something he considers important in taking on a manager’s job in England.
