Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are exploring the prospect of signing Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco this summer after his release clause came up, according to reports in Spain.
The 28-year-old Belgian has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and English clubs are considering making another move.
While it is clear that Carrasco is comfortable at the Wanda Metropolitano under the tutelage of Diego Simeone, several aspects of his contract allow for an exit. It is implied that he is keen to strike a new deal that would bring him closer to the club’s top earners, including Jan Oblak, Antoine Greizmann and Koke.
Carrasco has a two-year contract left in the Spanish capital and AS claim his severance clause is set at €60 million (£51.5 million). The report adds that Atletico are happy to discuss a new contract with Carrasco, as Simeone is keen to keep him.
The winger, 28, has been with the club for a total of five and a half years, with a brief stint in China between the two stints with the Spanish giants. He initially came from Monaco in 2015, left in 2018, only to return two years later.
During that time, he made 219 appearances for Los Rojiblancos and scored 37 goals. He won the league during the 2020/21 season, while also delivering six goals and seven assists last season.

It remains to be seen how realistic a transfer would be for United, Chelsea or Spurs, but Carrasco would certainly be an excellent wide option for the trio. The Red Devils have reportedly already had their eyes on Ajax star Antony but are struggling to agree a fee with the Dutch giants.
Meanwhile, it is clear that the Blues want another broad option this summer, with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and outgoing Barcelona ace Ousmane Dembele targeted. London rivals Spurs have already signed Ivan Perisic this summer but could be on the hunt for a replacement for Steven Bergwijn as the Dutchman is in talks with Ajax.
Intriguingly, Carrasco has previously admitted that he would be suitable for the Premier League. In 2019 he said: “All people know that England is one of the best championships in the world – it’s a big competition.
“The players who play in the Premier League tell me it’s a physical competition – strong, but you also have a lot of space. Sometimes when you play in other countries you don’t have a lot of space, but in England it’s open, it’s open. game goes up and down on the field.
“That would suit me. I think I can play in many leagues in the world – I can attack and also defend.
“In the national team I play as a winger, but I can also play in the back. England would be a good league for me. I think I’d be okay. If I get the chance to go to England, why not?”
