South Simcoe police reach out to Toronto’s gay community to solve a murder.
Mojtaba Shabani, 37, was found dead on April 15 by kayakers in the Bradford Canal, near Canal and Simcoe Rds.
“We believe that people out there are Mr. know Shabani. Someone in the community can help us put together their moves,” said Staff-Sgt. That’s what Dave Phillips said at a press conference on Thursday. “We are looking for tips to keep this fresh.”
An autopsy ruled the death to be a homicide, but police say the cause of death is being kept confidential.
Phillips said there is no evidence that Shabani was targeted because of his sexual orientation.
Shabani moved to Canada from Iran in 2010, and although he had ties to Toronto, he lived a “ephemeral” lifestyle.
Police say Shabani had three vehicles to his name, including a gray 2004 Honda Accord with registration number CHAW891, a blue 2001 Honda Civic with registration number BVHR490 and a red 2003 Volkswagen with registration number CFPC027.
