Man dead, pregnant woman injured in East Baltimore shooting

Police: Man, pregnant woman shot dead in East Baltimore

Baby delivered, in critical condition due to emergency surgery

patrol At approximately 8:13 p.m. tonight, Baltimore police were called to the 300 block of 23rd Street for a shooting incident. When officers arrived, they discovered two victims in a car parked in the block. What we now know is that the offender’s vehicle, occupied by at least two people, drove into the block, stopped next to the victim, the victim’s vehicle, exactly as it parked in this block. Um, one person shot the victim’s vehicle from the passenger window, while we believe the driver of the perpetrator’s vehicle got out and fired at the victim’s vehicle as well. Both subjects fired multiple shots into that vehicle, hitting both the driver and passenger. The driver was a man. The passenger was a woman and both were taken to Hopkins Hospital where the male victim has been pronounced and is expected to recover from his injuries. The female victim, who we now know is in serious condition, what we also know now is that the female victim was pregnant and her baby was delivered successfully due to an emergency labor and that baby is also in critical condition. But as a result of the delivery and not the shooting, that’s the information we have now. And so this was a very, very violent brutal attack on two individuals. 3 individuals rather on this bloc tonight and again we are here talking about the brutality, the cowardice, the deliberate attempt to injure and kill individuals by force of arms, the prevalence of weapons and the willingness of people to use them and the consequences they are clearly not afraid. And we are here to express our condolences for the loss of life. But to tell this community that we will do everything we can to find out who did this, catch them and hold them accountable. What we need now is for anyone who knows what happened, whether you have heard or seen it, to contact the police immediately. Or you can do it anonymously by calling crime stoppers at 18667. Lock up. Right now I’m going to hand it over to director Jackson and then we’ll hear from my husband. Thank you. Commissioner need not say that these events are tragic. They are unnecessary. They are not welcome in our neighborhoods. The mayor’s office for neighborhood safety and engagement mobilizes in two ways. We are sending our victim support team to Johns Hopkins right now to provide the family with the support they need right now as they search for a new life that just found its way to this earth and for mother who is now more supportive than ever need. In addition, tomorrow mental health support will be mobilized for this community as we know they are traumatic events that neighbors near us are still dealing with at these times. Mr. Mayor, I’ll turn it over to you. Thank you. Director. First of all, thank you, Commissioner. Uh, we offer condolences and thoughts and prayers for the loss of life here today, praying and asking the whole town to pray, uh, that the mother will make it. But also that this baby, uh, that was brought into this world. Unfortunately, after an act of violence this baby makes it real. And I could sit here tonight and Tanya stay here tonight and tell you a whole lot of things. But what we really need is to focus on the fact that something caused this. And to be very honest and forthright, I don’t really care what the conflict was. We can’t let people shoot at pregnant women in our city. So what we as a fucking community have to do is turn our community inside out. We’ll be here to make sure we’re looking for this person, individuals that people who carried out this, this senseless act of violence. But we need everyone for that. We need everyone to check themselves. The people around me, someone knows who did this. Someone knows who did this to a pregnant woman and someone else. *** baby is born after their mother is shot in some life. If that doesn’t change your mind about what’s happening in your community, support or control the people around you. I don’t know what we will do and we will find these people because we will not allow and tolerate that this kind of thing will continue to happen in our city. But we need our community to feel the same. I want you to feel that pain in your stomach when you think about a pregnant woman getting shot and think about it. That was your mother or your sister or your grandmother or whoever in your family. Because these are the kinds of things that we need to change and challenge ourselves to get better. Thank you. This time. We’ll answer a few questions. Any description of the suspect or suspects at this time. The information we have is that there were two suspects in a car. We don’t have a *** description of that vehicle or any of those two individuals yet, detectives are now looking for evidence to help us identify them. But we could certainly use the help of anyone who would have known who those people were and what kind of vehicle was being used. What is the relationship, pregnant woman or were they? It is unknown at this time. Actually we don’t even have an identity on the mail at the moment. So detectives are working on investigations and right now are finding the answers to those questions. Live in this area. Those are questions we ask to find the answers as we speak. I don’t know what the motive was that they wanted to kill them. That’s that’s that’s pretty obvious to all of us. Um, why are we working to figure that out and why it doesn’t matter. That’s the reality. Why doesn’t matter. Why doesn’t matter that someone is dead, a pregnant woman was shot, the baby had to be delivered. What matters is that we go after these people that we find these people and that’s all that matters. That’s all that matters to that family. It’s all that matters to the community. That’s all that matters in the city and should apply to all of us. They said they were in their car. Apparently the car had just parked and as he was driving in and parked within moments the perpetrator was apparently standing next to the vehicle. Then the shooting started. Next question. Okay. Thanks everyone. hmmmm.
