The 62-year-old was found dead in the rear shed of a Crafers West property on Friday after a person known to her notified police they had not seen her in some time.
Police have not yet revealed how or when the woman was killed but did confirm today the man charged with the murder was the victim’s son.
“This is an absolutely tragedy,” Inspector Michael Sampson of SA Police said.
“It has an impact on the family of the deceased and their wilder network of friends, and has an impact on [police and paramedics] who attended.”
A crime scene has been established and police are continuing to collect evidence from the house today.
Inspector Sampson said the “how and why” are now being investigated.
“This is an isolated incident and members of the community are not at any risk,” he said.
Neighbors say they heard yelling and screaming from the house within the last fortnight, and reported it to police.
“Two weeks ago, it was quite bad when I heard it,” neighbor Jake Stain told 9News.
He said his mum had heard “some serious domestic disputes” two days before that, which she reported to police.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
