Major Los Altos street closed due to fallen tree, fallen power cables

LOS ALTOS (CBS SF) – Los Altos Police said a main street in Los Altos was closed to traffic early Thursday evening due to a fallen tree and fallen power lines.

El Monte Avenue is closed between Higgins Avenue and Springer Road due to the danger. El Monte will be closed for the rest of Thursday evening, police said.

The high-voltage power lines have been broken due to the large fallen tree.

PG&E teams were on the scene at 6:40 PM. Once the power lines are repaired, the Los Altos City Public Works Department will cut the tree and remove it from the roadway.

El Monte Avenue is likely to remain closed through early Friday morning.

As many as 500 PG&E customers along El Monte Avenue will be without electricity as of 6:30 p.m., from Rinconada Court to Castle Lane.
