Monday marked the 49th celebration of Fiesta Day and Memorial Day parade for La Cañada Flintridge.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives, their time, their effort and their hearts to make this country what it is,” said Eleanor Heaphy, who attended the event. “I come from a long army line and an uncle who gave his life in Normandy.”
“We have to do this. We have to come together. Especially now, after everything that has happened, COVID and the division in the country,” Heaphy said. “This is the way to do it.”
“We saw a WWII veteran who was here. He’s 100 years old. That was great,” said parade goer Margaux Chan. “We wanted to really appreciate and celebrate America and the first responders, and just be a community. I love it.”
There was live music, youth groups, elected representatives like Congressman Adam Schiff, brass bands, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and lots of red, white, and blue.
The annual event also celebrates the community’s Spanish heritage.
