Johnny Depp, Amber Heard trial: woman calls actor the father of her baby

A woman in the public gallery made a sensational claim during the final week of the libel trial against Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Cameras have missed what is arguably one of the most bizarre moments in the libel trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp: a woman in the public gallery who claims Depp is the father of her baby.

After Judge Penney Azcarate announced a morning break in the Virginia courtroom Monday (local time), a woman stood up and made the sensational claim about the pirates of the caribbean actor.

She later admitted it was a “joke”.

law and crime journalist Angenette Levy was standing across from the woman across the aisle when it all happened.

“Suddenly this woman… she’s in the back of the courtroom with her baby and she’s like ‘Johnny, I love you, our souls are connected,'” Levy reported from outside the courtroom after the incident.

“And he kind of turned around and waved like he does sometimes, and everybody waved and you saw one of the officers come up to her and she held the baby up and said, ‘This baby is yours’.

“Everyone was like ‘woah, okay’ and the deputy said ‘you’re out of here’.”

The woman was removed from the courtroom and her wristband was cut.

“Obviously, even if the judge isn’t on the bench, you can’t do things like that — screaming that your souls are connected and that you love someone,” Levy said.

“And then other people started singing along too, so it was pretty wild.”

Levy later wrote on Twitter that the woman told the network she was joking.

law and crime host Jesse Weber pointed out that the woman could have been waiting with the baby since 1 a.m. to enter the courtroom – citing fans queuing for hours every day trying to join to the action.

Heard, 36, is being sued by ex-husband Depp, 58, for $50 million ($A67 million) for implying that he abused her in 2018 Washington Post op-ed.

Though she hasn’t named him, he claims her accusations are false and cost him lucrative movie roles.

Heard has filed a counter-claim, asking for $100 million ($A134m) and alleging that she had suffered “rampant physical assault and abuse” at his hands.

The highly publicized trial is in its final week since it started six weeks ago.

It has been streamed live and watched obsessively around the world, with social media users dividing themselves into “Team Amber” and “Team Johnny”.
