Supportive exes? While Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift Both have moved on with their whirlwind teenage love story, seemingly proving there’s no bad blood.
During the Jonas Brothers residency concert in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 4, the 32-year-old DNCE frontman was caught by eagle-eyed fans changing the lyrics to the group’s song “Much Better.” (The song is said to have been written about their split.)
In the original version of Jonas, he sang: “I got a reputation for breaking hearts / Now I’m cool with superstars / And all the tears on her guitar / I’m not bitter. … Now I am ready with superstars.” The line about “tears on her guitar” seemed to match Swift’s song “Teardrops on My Guitar.”
According to Saturday Twitter footage, the New Jersey native exchanged words and sang, “Now I’m cool with superstars.”
While Jonas — who performed with bandmates and brothers Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas during the gig – didn’t elaborate on why he changed the lyrics, eagle-eyed Swifties had plenty of theories.
“Joe Jonas performed ‘Much Better’ for the first time in YEARS last night and the lyrics were changed from ‘now I’m done with superstars’ to ‘now I’m cool with superstars’ to show how he grew up and friends again with Taylor Swift and I can’t get over it,” a social media user tweeted that night.
Another added: “This is GROWTH.”
Joe and the “Exile” singer, 32, were previously in a three-month relationship between July 2008 and October 2008. Their messy split made headlines after Swift claimed during a Ellen DeGeneres Show prevent him from dumping her through a 27-second voicemail.
†[Joe] sadly no longer in my life. That’s true. … One day I will find someone who is really, really great for me,” the Valentine’s Day actress told Ellen DeGeneres that Nov. “If I find that person that’s right for me… he’ll be great. And if I’m that person, I can’t even remember the guy who broke up with me on the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”
Joe, for his part, claimed at the time that he was trying to clear the airmail voicemail.
“For those who have expressed concern about the ’27 second’ phone call…I called to discuss feelings with the other person. Those sentiments were clearly not well received. I didn’t end the conversation,” the “Sucker” artist wrote via MySpace at the time. “Someone else did it. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk. A phone call can be quite short if someone else ends the call. … The only difference in this conversation was that I was sharing something the other person didn’t want to hear. There were subsequent attempts at communication that had no response.”
Joe has since gone on to get married Sophie Turner in May 2019. The couple share daughter Willa, 23 months, and are expecting their second child. Swift, for her part, is dating actor Joe Alwyn since May 2017.
Since their breakup, Joe and the musician “All Too Well” have reconnected and buried the hatchet.
“It’s something I probably felt bad about when I was younger, but at the end of the day I’ve moved on and I’m sure Taylor has moved on and it feels nice,” he told the British website. Lorraine in June 2019. “We’re all friends and it’s all good.”
