Joe Biden Says An Executive Order Against Gun Violence Would Make Him Just Like Donald Trump

President Biden blamed his predecessor on Wednesday when he explained to talk show host Jimmy Kimmel why he has not issued an executive order to curtail gun rights after the recent horrific mass shootings.

In his first interview in nearly 100 days, Mr. Biden told Mr. Kimmel to be careful that his executive orders do not violate the Constitution, adding that former President Trump abused his authority with a slew of executive measures.

“What I don’t want to do, and I’m not being funny, is that I don’t want to imitate Trump’s abuse of the Constitution and constitutional authority,” he said in response to Mr. Kimmel’s question about issuing a gun. check execution order.

“I often get the question, ‘Well, Republicans don’t play it square, why are you playing it square?'” Mr Biden continued. “Well guess what? If we do the same as they do, our democracy is literally in jeopardy.”

Democrats in Congress have called on Mr. Biden to use executive orders to conduct things like universal background checks that are unlikely to survive an agreement in an evenly divided Congress.

With gun laws stalled, some are calling on Biden to take action himself, following the Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas shootings.

Earlier on Wednesday, the House passed an almost partisan vote on a gun control law that raises the minimum age for buying assault weapons, limits the size of magazines and bans stock buying. But with a 50-50 split of the Senate, such an ambitious bill does not stand a chance in the Senate.
