Janet Jackson loses audio at Essence Fest, ends weekend with problems

Janet Jackson was not impervious to technical issues that Essence Festival had to contend with — the sound lost halfway through its performance … but persevered to stop it anyway.

The singer was one of the big headliners this weekend at the NOLA concert series at Caesars Superdome… where TONS of big stars performed at an event akin to Coachella. Which was also similar…often experienced audio issues on a live show.

Sadly no exception for Janet, as during her set… her microphone seemed to cut out while she was talking or singing, seen here in video obtained by TMZ.

The good news is that this minor hiccup seemed to go unnoticed most of the time, and the rest of Janet’s time on stage was a huge success… as she spent over an hour scouring hit after hit after hit – leaving fans more than happy. with the tunes and choreography.

Now it’s worth noting…there seemed to be quite a few sound issues over the past few days with acts – including some complaints about Halle and Chloe Bailey’s set where people said their levels weren’t right and they were funky the live audience sounded.

However, the audio for C/H was the least of some people’s concerns… even more viewers at home were pissed that Hulu was only live streaming their very last track… a recurring theme for the festival – namely, who subscribers watch on Hulu actually got to see.

This was perhaps most notable during Friday’s show, when Nicki Minaj headlined the evening… even though her performance didn’t make it to the Hulu broadcast.

Angela Yee, who hosted that night, noted that they were unable to show Nicki’s set to the audience at home, citing “circumstances beyond our control”. NM did indeed deliver… and she vented her frustrations at what was going on with BTS.

In light of Nicki’s mishaps — as well as other performers here and there — many dared Essence/Hulu to screw up Janet’s set (jokingly), saying there would be problems if they did.

Well, they kind of ruined the dog for JJ after all…but no harm, no foul. She went on like a pro and seems to have gotten a great track for everyone.
