Geologist Jim Fitton jailed in Iraq: ‘I just want my dad home,’ says family

The family of a British geologist who was jailed for up to 15 years in Iraq for attempting to remove artifacts from the country has appealed to the Foreign Office to “go against the verdict” and support his appeal.

Jim Fitton, 66, who is originally from Bath, collected 12 rocks and shards of broken pottery on a recent geological and archaeological tour of the country, but said he was unaware he was breaking the law.

His daughter Leila and son-in-law Sam Tasker spoke to BBC Breakfast about his plight.
