The popular neighborhood restaurant offered moms a free Mother’s Day breakfast special.

Owners Sandy Lewis and her husband Mike Ferrari put up a billboard in front of the door a few weeks ago and eager families waited for them to open the door at 8am

“We have a full house of reservations and they just keep coming,” Lewis said.

Lewis and Ferrari bought The Hideout just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, sending the restaurant business into chaos with outright closures and capacity constraints.

“This is our first Mother’s Day since we took over,” said Lewis. “Offering a free breakfast was actually my husband’s idea.

“He always did it when he worked at the Dominion Golf Course and there was always a big crowd. We wanted to do something for people and get people out of the house.”

Normally the breakfast tray is turned off at 1 pm, but the promotion ran all day long on Sunday.

A number of service clubs, including the Fogolar Furlan, also offered the opportunity to spoil Mom with festive Christmas brunches.
