Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes took to Instagram over the shocking decision over one of his recent posts.
Darren Hayes has taken to Instagram to comment on what he has called a “homophobic” decision to censor one of his posts.
In the artistic image, the Savage Garden frontman is seen on a bed fully clothed in a suit, with a naked man lying on his stomach over him.
Hayes, 50, captioned the image: “#HappyPrideMonth, #Gay and #Queer.”
In a post shared afterwards, the singer claimed the image had been removed by Instagram for violating “sexual temptation” rules.
“The full picture of this has just been drawn for ‘asking for sex’ lol,” Hayes wrote. “It’s me, fully clothed, with a naked male model lying over me with his ass censored. Homophobia much? It’s #pridemonth lol.”
His fans soon threw their support behind him, calling the social media platform’s decision “ridiculous”.
“Well, I saw the full one before it was taken down and it’s awesome,” one wrote.
“If it had been a naked woman lying over a man it wouldn’t have been a problem I guess! It’s 2022 for God’s sake, damn ridiculous,” said another.
“What?! What century are we exactly in?!” one user asked.
However, Instagram appears to have since reinstated the photo, following Hayes’ public complaint.
Earlier this month, the singer made headlines with his truly wild story about his close encounters with Madonna.
Hayes – a lifelong fan of the Queen of Pop – told Fitzy and Wippa on Nova that he had dated not one, but two members of her inner circle, including her brother.
“I think I can say this now because I’ve been married for 17 years, but I’ve had a few dates with her brother,” he told the radio hosts.
Madonna’s younger brother Christopher has been a close confidant of his sister throughout her career – but the couple famously fell apart after he wrote an all-encompassing book in 2008, Living with my sister Madonna†
And Hayes confessed that he also briefly dated Alek Keshishian, director of the 1991 documentary About Warts and Everything. In bed with Madonna†
Hayes married his high school sweetheart, makeup artist Colby Taylor, in 1994, but the couple split in 1998 at the height of Savage Garden’s fame. He came out publicly in 2005, the day before his wedding to now-husband Richard Cullen.
He is currently in Australia promoting his new solo material – new single poison blood is out now – and 2023 national tour.
