The day after his death, Damian took to Instagram to call the cricket legend “a father figure” and “one of the best men I’ve ever known”, as he spoke fondly of his mother’s ex after his sudden death.

Damian wrote: ‘I’m still trying to get my head around this… SW was a father figure to me through most of my formative years and was truly one of the best men I’ve ever known. My heart is broken. I’m thinking of and sending love to all of SW’s family.”

In addition to his words, he shared a flashback of himself hugging Shane for a sweet photo.

Damian’s biological father, Steve Bing, committed suicide in June 2020 by jumping from his 27th floor apartment in Los Angeles.

Last year it was announced that Damian would not get a cent from his late father after his paternal grandfather fought to overturn the decision to include him in Steve’s will.

Shane, who died suddenly of a heart attack while on a “boys vacation,” had told ABC presenter Leigh Sales that he “wanted to become a better person” when he dated Elizabeth in 2010.

Shane and Elizabeth first got together in late 2010, before he put the question to the Austin Powers actress in September 2011, but they sadly split in 2013.

Speaking of the romance in 2018, he said: “Who knows what the future holds. There is a difference between being in love with someone and loving someone. I’ll always love Elizabeth, but I don’t think we’ll ever get back together.”

'RIP my beloved Lionheart': The message came after Damian's mother Elizabeth broke her silence over Shane's death - she posted a series of photos, including one kissing
