Cossa shutout in Oil Kings 4-0 win over Thunderbirds in Game 3 of the WHL Championship Series – Edmonton

The Seattle Thunderbirds were unable to get a puck past Oil Kings goalkeeper Sebastian Cossa in Game 3 of the WHL championship series on Tuesday night as Edmonton took a 4-0 win.

The win on the road gave the Oil Kings a 2-1 lead in the series after splitting the first two home games.

Cossa stopped all 21 shots he encountered, while Seattle goalkeeper Thomas Milic set aside 33 of the 36 shots he faced before being pulled late in the game for an extra striker.

Striker Jakub Demek opened the scoring for the Oil Kings at 17:02 in the second period. He carried the puck from his own zone, cut for a Thunderbirds defender behind the Seattle blue line and moved from his backhand to his forehand before burying the puck in the net.

Edmonton defender Simon Kubicek scored 4:10 on the power play in the third period. Team-mate and fellow blue liner Kaiden Guhle added another goal at 11:47 in the third, while striker Carter Souch scored an empty goal with 41 seconds left in the game.

Oil Kings forward Justin Sourdif had an assist and was plus-two throughout the game, while also dominating the faceoff circle, winning 14 of 20 draws. He was named the first star of the game, Cossa was named the second star, and Souch was named the third star.

The series resumes Wednesday evening in Washington for Game 4.
