Cornwall’s next big up and coming artist is a penguin

The web-footed wonder hopes to use his talent to secure the future of his home for years to come

Cornwall’s next big up and coming artist is a Humboldt penguin with a penchant for painting. And now the web-footed wonder hopes to use his talent to secure the future of his home for years to come.

Squidge, of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, near Helston, discovered his ability for abstraction with his first canvas – a stunning display of colorful penguin footprints – created as part of his daily enrichment activities with the animal care team.

The activities are essential to help animals like Squidge, who is a permanent resident of the wildlife charity, stay engaged and active, encouraging them to exhibit natural behaviors.

Now the artwork is up for auction as part of the Fund Our Future campaign, which hopes to raise £1.3 million to redevelop four swimming pools on the iconic sanctuary site.
