According to fan reports during the show (via Brooklyn Vegan), Oberst left the stage yesterday (May 22) after just two songs during the band’s show at The Lawn at White Oak Music Hall.

Jezebel Senior Reporter Caitlin Cruz, who attended the performance, added: “Bright Eyes played two songs. Conor Oberst walked away. And now the band is suggesting Bright Eyes karaoke with Bright Eyes to the public.”

In later tweets, Cruz said the karaoke went on for a few songs before the venue canceled the show and refunded tickets.

The group plays tonight (May 23) at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans and a show is scheduled in New York on June 3.

NME has contacted Bright Eyes representatives for comment.

Last month Bright Eyes came by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert deliver a performance of ‘Dance And Sing’.

The song – that Oberst and co. performed with a full band and a miniature orchestra – is featured on the band’s 2020 album ‘Down In The Weeds, Where The World Once Was’, which marked their first full-length project in nearly a decade.

The band is preparing to re-release all nine of their studio albums, along with a ‘Companion’ EP featuring new recordings of songs from the original release plus a cover version by an artist they found particularly inspiring at the time.

They kick off the campaign on May 27 with their first three albums – ‘A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded 1995-1997’, ‘Letting Off The Happiness’ from 1998 and the LP ‘Fevers And Mirrors’ from 2000.

In February, the band shared new recordings of “Falling Out Of Love At This Volume,” “Contrast And Compare” with Waxahatchee and “Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh” with Phoebe Bridgers from the six-track Companion EPs.

The band has also announced a series of shows in the UK, Ireland and Europe which kick off in London on August 30th. Their tour will also include Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Dublin. You can buy tickets here.
