He also split with model Marloes Stevens for the same reason, and says that both break-ups inspired his new single, Let Go.

‘I wrote it more recently and I’ve been in and out of a couple of relationships in the past two or three years, so [it’s] sort of playing off that,’ he explained.

‘It was also moving into my life as an athlete, too – as a swimmer having to make compromises and sacrifices to be able to do that properly. It’s something that not everyone gets, and that was part of the reason I had to end my past two previous relationships.

‘The first one with Miley, I’d just started training towards the end of our relationship and it put me on a path where I realized I was going to go back to Australia if I was going to do it properly,’ he continued.

‘I saw all these realizations that maybe it’s time to turn the page in a chapter.’

Cody previously put his music career on hold to pursue his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer.

He’s now preparing to release his first full-length studio album in seven years on April 8, which is self titled.

Miley confirmed her split from Cody in August of 2020, after less than a year of dating.

She said during an Instagram Live stream at the time that they were taking time apart to ‘work on’ themselves but remained friends.

Referencing her split from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in August 2019, Miley said: ‘A year ago, almost to this exact date, the media tried to tell my story for me, and control my narrative, and I’m just not accepting that .

‘So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up. It was confirmed by a “reliable source” even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it.

‘But right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age.

‘We are just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do, and so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re hanging out, getting pizza.

‘We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not.’
