EXCLUSIVE: Chris Evans is in final negotiations to join Netflix Pain Hustlers opposite Emily Blunt.
Deadline first told you about the project out of Cannes, where the streamer acquired worldwide rights to the David Yates-directed, Wells Tower-written feature film for $50 million. Netflix had no comment on Evans’ potential participation in the film.
Pic revolves around Liza Drake (Blunt), a high school dropout who dreams of a better life for her and her young daughter. Liz lands a job at a failing pharmaceutical startup in a yellowing comic book store in Central Florida. Her charm, grit and drive catapult the company and her into the higher life, where she soon becomes the center of a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences.
Production is expected to begin in late August on the picture, which has been announced to be similar in tone to The big short, American crowds and The Wolf of Wall Street†
Lawrence Gray produces Pain Hustlers under its Gray Matter Productions banner alongside Yates and Yvonne Walcott Yates’ Wychwood Pictures. Lewis Taylor and Ben Everard are EPs, with Cyrus Mojibi, Patrick Wade, Lawrence Kao and Lloyd Everard as co-producers.
Evans teams up with the Russo Brothers again after his streak with them on the avengers and Captain America Marvel movies and Netflix’s the gray man opposite Ryan Gosling. He recently wrapped up production on the Dexter Fletcher-directed movie haunted for Apple.
Evans is represented by 3 Arts, CAA and attorney Jason Sloane.
