Britney Spears and her partner Sam Asghari have shared the news that the pop singer suffered a miscarriage during the early stages of pregnancy.
Spears revealed in April that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Spears shared the news of her miscarriage in an Instagram post on Saturday (May 14).
“It is with our deepest sadness that we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy,” she wrote. “This is a devastating time for any parent.”
The singer continued: “Maybe we should have waited to announce until we got further, but we were overly excited to share the good news.
“Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue to try to expand our beautiful family.”
Spears concluded: “We are grateful for all your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Asghari shared a touching message in response to the message, which has since been flooded with condolences and well wishes to the couple.
The singer shares sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
In April, the Grammy winner announced that she was expecting a child with her partner Asghari, to whom she has been engaged since September 2021.
The 40-year-old revealed she took a pregnancy test after arriving on a vacation to Hawaii.
Her pregnancy announcement came shortly after she suggested she could have more children in an Instagram post, in which she posed topless in the sea with the caption, “Planning on being babies in Polynesia.”
The post came after Spears claimed at a hearing in Los Angeles that she was not allowed to remove her IUD implant contraceptive device during her 13-year conservatory despite wanting to have more children.
“I have an IUD in my body right now that won’t let me have a baby and my conservators won’t let me go to the doctor to get it out,” she told the court in June 2021. “I feel trapped on. I feel bullied and feel left out and alone.”
“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” she added.
